Saving one dog will not change the world, but surely for that one dog, the world will change forever.

- Karen Davison, A Dog's Guide to Humans

If you haven't already checked them out, please view our adoptable dogs

The first step in the adoption process is to fill out an online adoption application. If your not sure who you'd like to adopt, please start the process by filling out an application and our team can help match you to your new friend. If you already decided on a your favorite, please include his or her name on the application. Once you have completed the application, please allow our team 24 hours to review and get back in touch with you.

Our team will reach out to talk more about the dog(s) you are interested in and then schedule a meet and greet. Don't worry if you haven't decided, we will help you find the perfect fit.  A Riverview Rescue team member may do a home check, veterinarian reference check, and/or personal reference check. While these checks are not always required, they are sometimes necessary to ensure your new friend thrives in their furever home.

You may be able to take your new friend to their furever home the same day if they are medically cleared, up to date on vaccinations, and spayed or neutered. If you are not able to take your new friend home right away we will work to expedite any needed items so that they can go home quickly.

A few days after your new friend goes home we will check in to see how everything is going. Change can be stressful for some dogs, especially those that have started off in hard situation but, we are here to help you through it. Expect an adjustment period, for some dogs this may be a few hours, for others a few months.

Some behaviors your new friend may exhibit include:

  • Shyness, hiding, or nervousness
  • Unexplainable barking
  • Seperation anxiety
  • Marking territory or having accidents inside
  • Possessiveness with you, toys, or food

We recommend introducing your new friend to you house and new surroundings slowly. Give them one or two rooms at a time to explore and provide them with a crate or safe place to call their own.

If for any reason, you can no longer care for your dog, he or she is always welcome to return to Riverview Rescue.
